Breast Augmentation & Implants – Carlton
Today is the so-called “Era of Glamour”. The world is starting to accept that cosmetic or aesthetic procedures are already part of an individual’s normal routine. The sudden upsurge in the number of cosmetic treatments performed worldwide has caused us to change our perception of beauty – that slight to drastic body modifications are sometimes necessary. For a woman, fuller and rounder breasts add to her sex appeal and self-confidence. For those who are not gifted with fuller breasts, breast augmentation surgery or the use of breast implants can offer a long-term solution to this problem.
In summary, a breast augmentation addresses the following most common concerns:
- Asymmetrical breasts (one breast is lower than the other)
- Disproportionate balance of overall figure
- Lack of upper pole fullness
- Not enough cleavage
- Underdeveloped breasts
We understand that body image is a powerful thing – it is based on your thoughts and feelings about how your body looks and how good you feel about yourself. Looking at the mirror is a personal experience that can significantly affect every individual’s self-perception. Our practice reflects this understanding through helping our clients achieve their own vision of beauty, with long-term and natural results. We offer a wide array of safe and effective cosmetic procedures such as breast augmentation with the use of breast implants at highly competitive prices. Each one of our plastic surgeons, registered nurses and medical staff are highly trained and have been hand-picked based on their accreditations, reputation, and ability to specialize in different areas of the cosmetic field.
What are the limitations of the procedure?
Patients should be aware that breast augmentation cannot correct severe breast sagging or drooping. An additional surgery such as breast lift may be required to address this problem. Also, keep in mind that the breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime. You may need to replace it after 10 to 15 years depending on the type and brand of the implant.
Am I a good candidate?
Women who are in good overall health with no cardiovascular problems, hypertension and bleeding or clotting problems may undergo the procedure. Also, they must have realistic goals and positive expectations about the procedure. Our surgeons will assess you during the initial consultation to determine if you are a good fit for the procedure.
What are the pre-operative requirements?
Good candidates for the surgery will need to undergo medical clearance 2 weeks before the surgery. A pre-operative appointment in the office is necessary to make the final decisions about the type of implant, surgical plan, and consent forms to be signed. Aside from medical and physical history, you will need a complete blood count (CBC) test. You are also required to stop smoking and other current medications such as Aspirin as it can delay the healing process and increase your risk for bleeding. On the evening before surgery, you will be put on an NPO (nothing by mouth) status, which means you are not allowed to eat or drink anything to prevent nausea or vomiting during the operation.
Before the operation starts, the following topics will be discussed to you in detail:
- Type of implant (silicone, saline, or cohesive gel implants)
- Size of implants
- Shape of implants
- Surface of implants
- Placement of implants
- Moderate profile, high profile, extra high profile
- If the procedure will be done with a breast lift
Are there health issues related with the surgery?
According to research, the development of breast cancer if you have breast implants is usually rare. Under normal circumstances, hardening of the breasts (capsular contracture), bruising, bleeding, fever, infection, pus, nipple and breast sensation changes, palpable or visible implants, and allergic reactions to the type of anesthesia used may occur. However, the procedure is generally safe especially under the hands of a well-trained and highly experienced surgeon. We give emphasis on safety and effectiveness of the procedure through our state-of-the-art medical facilities and impeccable skills of our medical staff – we treat high volume of patients and are always updated in different trends in cosmetic procedures to ensure optimum results.
Will my normal activities be disrupted?
In order to facilitate you, and to ensure that your activities of daily living are not affected, all your appointments with us are arranged and scheduled with respect to your ease, convenience and preferences. All of these will be discussed and arranged several days prior to your procedure.
What will I expect after the surgery?
You will be observed for the first 48 hours. If no complications or untoward symptoms are seen, you will be discharged the next day. It is recommended to have a watcher with you to assist you and to drive you home. You will be required to return for follow-up to assess the status of your implants.
