Are your sagging breasts make you feel less like a woman? Does your breast imperfection affect your self-confidence and quality of life? Do you want to achieve perfect breasts you once dreamed of? Now is the time to turn your dream into reality! With augmentation procedure, your breast profile can be enhanced through the use of breast implants and give you a natural, long-lasting results.
Your personal consultation with one of our highly qualified surgeons will give you a glimpse of the most appropriate breast size and shape for you. Everyone has differently shaped breasts, so our surgeons will choose implants that best suit you whilst taking into consideration your desired aesthetic outcome.
What happens during breast augmentation?
During the procedure, after the patient is cleaned, prepared and the operating room is made sterile, the surgeon will make incisions around the areola, in the crease under the breast to hide scars. Through that incision, your surgeon will open a pocket either in front or back of the pectoral muscles. Placement of the implant usually depends on the amount of breast tissue that the patient has. Having created that pocket, your surgeon will stop any bleeding and will trial different implant sizes as discussed with the patient before the operation. When the appropriate implant is inserted, the wound is then closed in layers with or without the insertion of a surgical drain tube. Absorbable sutures are normally used to eliminate the need for suture removal post-operatively. Sterile bandages are then applied. Compression with tape or elasticated bandage or specially designed breast support are also applied.
To prevent infection, our surgeons meticulously prepare the operative field, performs surgical handwashing and avoid contact with unsterile areas. Also, it is normal for patients to receive a dose of antibiotic before or on the time of surgery to fight infection. Very rarely is any significant pain relief necessary as breast augmentation is not normally a painful procedure. Mild pain-reliever such as paracetamol can be used. You will notice the results immediately, and after a day, once swelling is minimized, you will see your breasts’ final appearance.
How do I choose the appropriate breast size and shape for me?
The ideal breast size and shape should be in proportion with the patient’s body so that the resultis natural. There are different breast size and shape, hence proper selection is vital. You are not alone in choosing the right implant for you as our surgeons will guide you through the whole process and will take into consideration factors such as skin thickness, your physique and breast tissue when determining your final suitable size.
Where are the implants placed?
Placement of breast implants greatly depends on the amount of tissue you have. Generally speaking, for patients with small amount of breast tissue, the chosen implant will be inserted under the muscle. For those with adequate breast tissue, the implant is inserted in front of the muscle. All decisions and recommendations are always discussed with you so that you have full understanding of the procedure.
What are the different incisions?
To hide scars, your surgeon may use the following incision techniques:
- Periareolar – this incision is made around and near the edge of the areola. With this incision, the visibility of scarring tends to be low. However, you may experience changes in nipple sensitivity as it involves cutting through ducts and breast tissue.
- Inframammary – this incision is made under the breast crease and is one of the most used methods because the scars are usually well-concealed.
- Transumbilical (TUBA) – this incision is created in the navel whereby an endoscope is used for easy insertion of the implant into the breast pockets. Because this method needs only one incision, scarring is generally unnoticeable.
Whatever your desired surgical incision is, our surgeons will guide you through achieving one common goal – to lessen scarring or to conceal them so that the outcome is very natural.
Can your implant rupture?
All implants and other materials inserted into the body are considered as foreign body and your body may have different reactions to it. Breast implants do not last a lifetime and may require another surgery to replace them with new ones. Depending on the type of implant used, the material can last 10 to 15 years. But in case of rupture, its content can leak into the surrounding breast tissues. Significant changes can occur following implant rupture such as reduction in the size of the breast, pain, visible changes in the shape of the breast, asymmetry, and other noticeable breast imperfections.
It is recommended that you immediately consult with our highly skilled surgeons to assess you and conduct immediate management in order to restore your breast profile. Secondary surgery can be performed to insert new implants or you have the choice not to do so.
